Love Beats Hate

Whether young or old, each of us craves validation. But that doesn’t stop those who marginalize a particular group of people in order to create a sense of superiority – possibly to seek the very validation lacking from their own lives.

Although a negative event inspired “Love Beats Hate,” something very positive is occurring because of it. Today, along with scores of bloggers, I’m celebrating people who choose love above hate; those who have dealt with injustices and vowed never to let another person suffer through the same struggles alone. Because you’ve “been there” and “done that,” empathy guides you to extend a friendly hand, lend an ear, or provide a shoulder to cry on.

You join social networks, discussion forums, you blog about your experiences, or even upload video commentary - not because someone’s paying you, but because you’ve become the very friend you wish you had had when you were at your lowest point. That’s love.

Bloggers like me are rallying today, not only for sanity, but to shine a light on those who would rather sympathize than ostracize. Because life gifted us with our own experience, we seize the opportunity to use what we know to educate, support and motivate those who stand where we once stood. Even by just sharing our journey, we elevate the spirit of others. After all, how many of us have felt depleted after hearing a condescending comment, be it directed toward us or a particular group considered outside the norm?

The Internet plays such an important role in bringing together individuals from all walks of life. Someone on the other side of the world may understand what you’re going through more than your own family. There’s nothing quite like reading “You are not alone” from a stranger. I know it’s made a huge difference in my life.

I thank you for being a part of today’s blogging event, and I look forward to reading what others are sharing. Even by just spreading the word, you’ve proven how much love beats hate.

What a lovely post... I especially like the part "There’s nothing quite like reading “You are not alone” from a stranger." That is so true and I think the real driving force behind so many bloggers.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and spreading the love xx

I find it very hard to understand a mind that would choose to ostracize and criticize others.

But what I have certainly seen in my over 2 years of blogging is that love rules and bloggers gravitate towards it! And that shines!!

I've been amazed by the amount of love, understanding and support can come from people I only know online. I only hope I can, in turn, provide that for others. Thank you for this lovely post.

There is something about being on line and going to a message board about a topic (non chemical sensitivity related) and being friendly with people whose skin colour one doesn't know and use of certain products one doesn't know and, sometimes one's gender one doesn't know and it just being about ideas and opinions etc.

Me, I have a tendency to judge a person more favourably depending on what products they coat themselves with - so it is nice to get to know people without their (let's call it drug use) poisoning me against them.
