Growing up in the 80s, my girlfriend Tanya and I were completely gaga over the cartoon "Jem." We pressured our moms nonstop so we could increase our Jem doll collection/fetish, and we would sing along to all the songs. That cartoon was silly, but it taught us valuable lessons about humanitarianism, acceptance and love. Now I have the opportunity to auction off my entire collection on ebay for a great cause. Yes, I need the money, but something just clicked in me, and I decided this was the right thing to do.
The winning bidder will help me donate 100% to the Breast Cancer Fund. Why do I love this organization? They aren't afraid to admit the link between chemicals in our environment and breast cancer, unlike the Susan G. Komen's of the world who have the nerve to partner with a fast-food company.
Check out BCF to find out which chemicals are linked to breast cancer.
UPDATE: This lot sold for $766. Congratulations BCF! And thank you to all who helped spread the word.

I have a friend who grew up in the deep South in the 1940's and 1950's whose oncologist said her breast cancer could have been caused by exposure to DDT which they sprayed everywhere then. She said they would come down the road and just spray spray spray even with kids playing outside. Wonder how many others that grew up there had the same problem??
Such a shame about your friend. And yes, sadly there must be others struck with breast cancer because of that DDT exposure.
Jasmine,
Best of luck with your auction! Thank you for letting me know about it.
Kudos to you for finding an organization that admits there is a link between chemicals in the environment and breast cancer. Like you, I was very troubled by the KFC/Komen campaign. I looked at the Breast Cancer Fund site and it's great! They certainly have an emphasis on prevention... which is as it should be!
Thanks for your good work!
Jeanne
Thanks for having my back, as always, Jeanne. Hugs to you!
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone :)
Terrific idea, I HAVE to start using Ebay.
It is great of them to do that, and they seem to be adding new causes all the time. There were only a handful before, now there seem to be hundreds.
