Workplace Perfume Precedent

Watch CBS News Videos Online

I shared a newspaper article about Susan McBride in December, 2008. I'm very happy to report she won her lawsuit, which will help spread awareness about the dangers of chemicals in fragrances like perfume, after shave, scented lotions, plug-in type air 'fresheners,' etc. For more about Susan McBride vs the City of Detroit, and this lawsuit, check out The Canary Report and MCS America.

Jasmine,

Thank you for posting this video.

Medical offices are beginning to implement fragrance-free policies and thanks to this case, hopefully, workplaces will become more aware of how very ill fragrances can make people.

Justice for the scent challenged everywhere! And sometimes its not just the scent, it's the chemicals that make the scent possible...

It's absolutely all about the chemicals within these fragranced-products. Unfortunately, too many think it's a personal attack against their favorite 'smell.' A pile of feces has its own smell, too, but that won't cause an acute migraine attack ;)

Thanks for the shout out, Jaz! I'm so disgusted with the news media not reporting that it was the toxic chemicals in the co-workers' perfume and the office air fresheners that made this woman ill, not the scent. But of course that wouldn't make a very interesting story for the masses, would it? And heaven forbid any sponsors are offended. Gaaack!

My pleasure, Susie. Thank you for doing what you do, and for giving all of us Canaries a home to fly to. xoxo

Hi there,

I’ve just started reading your blog and it’s awesome. I hope you’ll check mine out too (I only started recently). The blog is called Loving with Chronic Illness (www.lovingwithchronicillness.blogspot.com). I was diagnosed with Spondylitis when I was 16 and I’m 24 now trying to live the best life possible while being in chronic pain. I’d love if we could link up

All the best,
Maya
